Sumerian Disappearance

The Sumerian language and people seemingly disappeared around 4,200 years ago, and now geologists are saying that this may have been caused by a severe drought. According to geological records this drought lasted 200-300 years and coincides with the abandonment of about 74% of the Mesopotamian settlements. If the link is sufficiently proven then the answer to why the Sumerians, and all their accomplishments, vanished would be answered.
